While the range of electric cars is constantly increasing, those looking for a model with a towing device have a relatively small number of options, as only a few electric vehicles come already fitted with one. Although in principle there would be nothing against equipping an electric car with a tow bar, it is still rarely done. A trailer such as a caravan or horsebox means more weight, which places a greater burden on the battery and has a negative impact on the range. The extra kilos that need to be moved result in increased energy consumption and a decrease in range. According to some sources, this can be up to 70 per cent depending on the weight of the trailer, so here too, the advice is not to take any unnecessary journeys with a trailer.
