VW: ID Buzz

The Volkswagen Group is developing the first self-driving car in its history based on the fully electric ID. Buzz, which is scheduled for launch in 2022. The market launch for the ID. Buzz AD with Level 4 automation is planned for 2025. According to Christian Senger, Head of Autonomous Driving at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, the ID. Buzz AD will initially facilitate commercial use (transport and delivery services). A camera, a radar and laser sensors with a range of 400 metres and a 360-degree field of vision are combined to provide the best possible view of the vehicle’s surroundings. The technology can detect cyclists, pedestrians, cars and other road users from a considerable distance and predict the direction in which they are likely to move, for example. Argo AI – responsible for the self-driving system – and the mobility service provider MOIA are involved in the development as partners. MOIA plans to start operations with the ID. Buzz AD with a shuttle service in Hamburg in 2025.
